Combine this with a good coffee grinder and you are steps above instant coffee. This press is excellent quality but I expected more than two cups (mugs) of coffee with each press. I'm happy with the purchase and recommend it for any serious coffee drinker.
I wash my cup and filter in a dishwasher regularly with no problems. If this ever wears out, I'll definitely get another. So far no problems there. I prefer to grind my own beans and it turns out coarser.
The quality of the coffee is excellent. The mug keeps the coffee warm for over three hours, which is much better than I expected.After about 2 years of drinking coffee from this mug I can also say the quality is good. They had a hot water dispenser which cost nothing. The plunger, filter, handle, etc. We have a sink with a garbage disposal at work, and I found some sites on the web that said coffee grains are good for garbage disposals. I bought my French press mug about two years ago when the price of a 12 oz cup of coffee in the office went up to 45 cents.
Now I brew my own coffee at work, and get better coffee for a lower price. I dump the grainy slurry at the bottom of the cup into the trash, and wash the rest of the grains into the garbage disposal. French press coffee allows some tiny grains through the filter which give the coffee more texture. are all still in good condition. I work in a cubicle in an office building and drink a lot of coffee. The only difficulty that I ran into is disposing the grains.
I've used coffee ground for drip paper filters in the mug, and it works fine.
I give it an A+ I am going to school to be an herbalist and I love this mug for brewing loose herbs overnight.the double screen allows for no plant particles to be swallowed. I have owned one of these mugs for couple of years and I love it. I plan on buying a 2nd and maybe even a 3rd one. It is also nice that it's stainless steel and not a leaching material like aluminum or plastic.
GREAT product. I LOVE this set up. On of the smarter of us found this french press system, and not only does it make a better cup of coffee it cuts down on the amount of gear you have to carry (space in a canoe for a week long trip is at a premium). Would highly recommend this to the outdoors person as well as someone looking for a way to brew a single cup of coffee/tea at home. My friends and I do a ton of canoe/camping trips. For years we have used a percolator to create that early morning motivational cup of coffee. Even in 20* weather the cup keeps the coffee and me warm.
I also love the design of the non-press top, it has a non-drip edge and a splash containing slide/guard built in. It holds a decent temperature for a several hours (if you get side tracked) and it is stable on a flat surface. So Thank You Liquid Planet, this is a marvelous french press/thermal travel cup. Makes great coffee and great tea, simple to use anywhere you can heat water. In the car it becomes less stable as it gets closer to empty, but I can deal with that. I had questions for the company who sells these and they were quick to answer as well as personable. This press is worth it's weight in gold.
Kudos to Liquid Planet's customer service.Mid October 2009 I just returned from a solo road trip. I had no trouble getting hot water so I was able to have outstanding coffee every inch of the way. What I really wish I could get is a bigger variety of colors in this style, everyone in my house wants the black one for lack of a better choice. Everyone who drinks coffe or tea should have one. Perfect for work. I will be doing battle to keep mine in my possession.
Even friendly. For a picky coffee fanatic that is sooo important. I really love this mug/press. There is a black rubber trim/drip catcher above the bottom steel edge that will not stay on, something that I can also deal with. What a rare delight in this busy world.
